The Vienna Museum Quarter with its 45.000 m2 area is situated in the 7th district between the inner city of Vienna - the Imperial Hofburg complex, the Heldenplatz, the National Library and both Court Museums - and the Spittelberg, a densely populated residential area with wide range of cultural facilities.
It can be reached via subway (U2 Babenbergerstrasse, U3 Volkstheater), tramway (1,2,D,J,49) or bus (2A, 48A).
At the moment the Vienna Museum Quarter is under partial renovation and reorganization to make the area of the former Imperial Stables in Vienna available to art.
This forum for a wide variety of artistic initiatives and projects with different cultural objectives will be completed by the year 2000. The new Museum Quarter and its many autonomous institutions will be both an artistic laboratory and a cultural archive, as well as a centre of experimental practice and theory and a space for the production and communication of art.
